Why this product — and when another may suit you better.

Hydra-Vital Factor K isn’t the catchiest of names for a moisturiser but it makes up for it with a memorable formulation instead. It’s relatively unique in that it’s richly hydrating but simultaneously doesn’t feel too heavy or claggy. Applying a thin layer leaves a silky smooth, slightly matte film on skin which prevents water from evaporating away from the skin whilst still being nice and easy to apply SPF and makeup over the top. Hydra-Vital Factor K is also a wonderful night cream on the when you're taking a break from your retinoid or if you've just had an in-clinic procedure.

Why it made The Curatory

Moisturisers are not particularly interesting and for lots of people, not essential either. So if you are going to use one you want to make sure that it is ticking all the right boxes. hydra-vital factor K ticks these boxes.

It has a nice balance of moisturising factors (emollient, humectant and occlusive), is technically well formulated, eases sensitivity and possibly most importantly of all just feels really really good on your skin.

It may suit you if…

This is ideal if you want a rich moisturiser that doesn’t feel like a rich moisturiser. This is my first line if you have slightly oilier, acne prone skin and are getting started with retinoids that may make the skin feel a little drier and more sensitive initially. 

This is also perfect for post-procedure (microneedling or chemical peels) when the skin barrier has been temporarily impaired and you need to lock water into the deeper layers of the skin to speed up recovery.

This is also a wonderful product if you have sensitive or rosacea-prone skin. The balm-like consistency is incredibly soothing and it can help to support and repair the skin barrier.

Another option may be better if…

You may find that if you have other products with a creamy, moisturising texture that you can get away without having a daily moisturiser. That being said, it's always useful to keep something in stock for those days where your skin may be feeling a little more sensitive or dry.

If you have slightly oilier or acne-prone skin then despite the relatively light-weight texture that it’s still a little heavy for you and you may benefit from something a bit thinner.

How to introduce it

There is no limit to how frequently or how much you can use Hydra-Vital Factor K. For most people if you’re using it as a daily moisturiser then a large pea-sized amount for the face and a little extra for the neck will suffice either once or twice a day. 

If you have recently had a procedure then you may need to use more product more frequently but be led by how your skin is feeling. 

Moisturising should come towards the end of your skincare routine, either as the last stage in your evening routine or just before applying SPF in the morning.

Lactic Acid

A gently exfoliating AHA that also acts as a hydrator.

Lactic Acid isn’t just another alphahydroxy acid (AHA). Although it does also help to gently exfoliate dead skin cells away, it’s also a moisturising ingredient. Depending on the pH and concentration it can improve how well the skin holds onto water and keep the top layers of the skin soft and hydrated.

Vitamin E

A potent antioxidant that helps to prevent aging changes, support collagen production and stabilise Vitamin C.
