Dr Max’s view

Why I chose it

This cleanser does one basic job extremely well. The amino-acid surfactant gives a thorough, polished cleanse, while the supporting formula makes it more comfortable than many products chosen simply for a strong foam.

It is included for people who value the texture and experience enough to use a simple cleanse consistently, not because an expensive cleanser is automatically more effective.

How to introduce it

Use roughly half to one pump over damp skin, massage gently across the face and neck, then rinse well with lukewarm water.

It can be used morning and evening, although a morning cleanse is optional when skin already feels comfortable.

For heavy make-up or water-resistant sunscreen, use a suitable first removal step and keep the foaming cleanse gentle rather than scrubbing or repeating it unnecessarily.

Inside the formula

The ingredients that make this special

A closer look at the ingredients doing the most meaningful work in this formula—and what the evidence can reasonably tell us.

Allantoin

A potent hydrating ingredient that helps to support the skin barrier and reduce sensitivity.

Read the clinical context

Allantoin is found in lots of moisturisers for its skin soothing and moisturising properties. It’s commonly used in products designed for use after in-clinic treatments or in aftershaves for its calming effects. It falls under the humectant category of moisturisers meaning that it helps to draw water into the upper layers of the skin and keep the skin supple and hydrated.

Panthenol

A well-studied humectant that supports hydration and the skin barrier.

Read the clinical context

Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) has good evidence supporting its ability to improve skin hydration and barrier function by attracting and retaining moisture in the upper layers of the skin. Its soothing effects and ability to reduce irritation are supported by clinical data, making it a reliable ingredient for those with dry and sensitive skin.

Matricaria Flower Extract

A botanical extract traditionally used to help calm redness and sensitivity.

Read the clinical context

Matricaria Flower Extract (chamomile) contains compounds such as bisabolol and flavonoids that are associated with soothing and anti-inflammatory effects. While there are some small studies that suggest benefits for calming redness and irritation, bigger studies are needed for this to be used as a single ingredient in skincare.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice

A hydrating and soothing ingredient traditionally used to calm irritated skin.

Read the clinical context

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice contains polysaccharides and antioxidant compounds that help hydrate the skin and support sensitive skin. While its soothing and hydrating properties are well recognised, evidence for anti-inflammatory and healing effects is mixed, with results varying between studies. It is commonly used to help calm redness and irritation, particularly in sensitive or dehydrated skin.

The thinking behind the formula

More about Revision Skincare

Revision Skincare develops and manufactures its formulas in the United States, with an in-house research and development facility in Dallas. The brand places particular emphasis on formulation stability, ingredient selection and supporting long-term skin comfort.

Gentle Foaming Cleanser is a good example of a focused product: an amino-acid surfactant creates a soft foam, while humectant and soothing ingredients help offset the tight feeling that can follow stronger cleansers.
