Why I chose it

Pigmentation is one of the more difficult concerns to treat, and most over-the-counter products either underperform or cause irritation.

What I like about this is the balance. It uses a combination of proven brightening ingredients in a way that is well tolerated, even in more sensitive skin or when the skin is already under stress from treatments.

It’s not designed to be a standalone solution for more severe pigmentation such as melasma, where prescription options are often more appropriate. But as part of a broader routine, or for milder pigmentation and maintenance, it’s a reliable option that delivers good value for money.

How to introduce it

Apply a large pea-sized amount to the full face (not just the area that you're trying to treat) and gently massage in.

This product can be used in the morning, the evening or both.

If you're trying to prevent pigmentation then once a day is plenty.

If you're trying to actively treat pigmentation alongside a full depigmenting skincare routine then twice a day is preferable.

If using to prevent pigmentation after in-clinic procedures then follow the advice of your practitioner.

Kojic acid can sometimes cause a little sensitivity, if you find that you're developing redness and sensitivity with this product then reduce to every other day of if severe then contact us at hq@thecuratory.skin

Liquorice Root Extract

A soothing and brightening botanical extract that helps support a more even-looking complexion.

Liquorice Root Extract contains compounds such as glabridin and liquiritin, which are associated with calming and pigment-regulating effects. There is moderate evidence, including small clinical studies, suggesting it may help reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and redness. Laboratory data also supports its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. While results are generally milder than prescription treatments, it is well tolerated and commonly used in formulations designed for sensitive, reactive or uneven skin.

Kojic Dipalmitate

A brightening ingredient designed to help improve uneven pigmentation.

Kojic Dipalmitate is a more stable, oil-soluble derivative of kojic acid used in skincare to target dark spots and uneven skin tone. It works by slowing down melanin production, through the same pathway as Kojic Acid. Evidence for its effectiveness in topical skincare is limited but growing, with most data coming from laboratory or formulation-based studies rather than large clinical trials. It is typically better tolerated and more stable than kojic acid, making it a common choice in products designed for gradual, gentle brightening.

Alpha Arbutin

A brightening ingredient that helps reduce the appearance of dark spots.
